The right nutrition for kittens is essential for their healthy growth and well-being.
We would therefore like to provide you with all the necessary information on the correct amount of food and our general feeding recommendations for kittens in this article.
1. Find the right food for your kitten
There are a few important aspects to consider when choosing the right food for young cats. Firstly, you should make sure that the food has been specially developed for kittens. Such food contains all the necessary nutrients in the right quantities to cover the increased energy and nutritional requirements of young cats.

2. Feeding recommendation: How much food your kitten needs
It is crucial to follow the manufacturer's feeding recommendations exactly. You will always find this on the back of our feed bags.

These recommendations are based on scientific findings and are designed to support the optimum growth and healthy development of kittens. Overfeeding can lead to obesity and health problems, while underfeeding can lead to deficiencies and developmental problems. It is therefore important to accurately dose the amount of food and weigh the kittens regularly to ensure they are in a healthy range.
3. Read feeding recommendations correctly: Importante note
It is important to read the feeding recommendations on the packaging carefully and correctly. The daily amount of food depends on the food itself. So I can't simply transfer the amount of food from one food to another, but have to check the manufacturer's feeding recommendation again with every new food or new variety.
It is also important to know that the correct amount of food is not only based on the age of the young cat, but also on the expected final weight.
Important: This means that I don't take the current weight of my little cat and then look at the table, but I think about how heavy the kitten will be when it grows up! The mother's weight is usually a good reference for this.
What is the problem if a feeding recommendation is based on the kitten's current weight? If, for example, the kitten is already a bit too chubby anyway, then I will continue to support this excessive weight with further feeding. However, if I use the target weight of the adult cat as a reference, then a kitten that is too heavy will be fed a little lighter and a kitten that is too light will be fed a little heavier. In this way, the body weight is always equalised to the optimum.
