First equipment for kittens: Checklist

A wide range of pet supplies is available in pet shops.The few things you need for a kitten usually don't cost much. What do I need for a kitten? What things should I get before my baby cat moves in? The following checklist for the initial equipment will help you get started.

Necessary initial equipment:

  • Transport box
    - Sufficient space for the kitten
    - escape-proof model with easy handling
    - low dead weight
  • Cat litter tray with scoop: model with low entry for the kitten
  • Cat litter: Caution! Do not use clumping litter, as accidentally swallowed litter grains can harden in the stomach!
  • Flat, wide, non-slip feeding and drinking bowls
  • Age-appropriate, high-quality kitten food
  • Scratching post: make sure it is well made and cannot tip over
  • Place a cuddly cave or cat basket with a cosy blanket in a warm and draught-free place
  • Grooming accessories: comb and soft grooming brush, nail scissors & tick tweezers
  • Kitten toys: snack balls, cat fishing rods, toy birds with catnip

Caution: No balls of wool, string or rubber items due to the risk of choking and intestinal obstruction!
