When should I start feeding my dog senior food?

When they are older, furry friends usually have lower energy requirements than when they are younger because their spontaneous activity is reduced.

In this phase of life, your four-legged friend's food should be individually adapted to his activity. Senior dogs need high-quality and easily digestible food to relieve the strain on their organs.

Why does my older dog need senior food?

In order to avoid obesity and the negative consequences on health, it is often necessary to reduce the amount of feed used.

Small deviations from the feeding recommendation are not a problem, but if the amount of food is reduced significantly and persistently, it should be noted that the amounts of essential nutrients such as amino acids, trace elements and vitamins are also reduced. In this case, you should switch to a senior food with a lower energy content to ensure that your fur friend is supplied with all the nutrients it needs.

For this purpose, we have developed several complete foods for older dogs. In addition to the lower energy content, the protein and phosphorus content is also somewhat reduced, as relieving the strain on the kidneys and/or liver is often important, especially for older furry friends. The crude fiber content ("fiber"), however, is higher, so that intestinal movement is also supported, for example.

What should I consider when feeding my senior furry friend?

Older dogs often no longer tolerate large portions so well, so a feeding rhythm of three to four meals per day is suitable to relieve digestion.
If your furry friend has problems chewing the food, you can soften it with lukewarm water.
