The domestic dog has in many ways moved away from its forefather, the wolf, and adapted to life with humans. This is particularly true for digestion, metabolism and therefore the entire diet.

Today's complete food is therefore of particularly high quality and is optimally adapted to the needs of our furry friends. Professional, product and nutrient-friendly manufacturing processes, as well as scientifically based recipe design, make it possible to produce the right food for every activity level and every stage of life.

However, many furry friends suffer from food intolerances or allergies. As different as the causes of a possible allergy are, the symptoms can also be different.

What are the symptoms of a food allergy or intolerance?

  • Itching or red skin
  • Scratching and licking certain areas of skin
  • Changes in fur and skin
  • Gastrointestinal problems, such as vomiting or diarrhea
  • Recurring ear or conjunctivitis

What do I do if my furry friend shows symptoms of a food allergy or intolerance?

If your furry friend shows symptoms of a food intolerance or allergy, the first step is to find out what the immune system is reacting to. As a rule, the body reacts to individual proteins from meat, fish, grain or dairy products, which are recognized as "foreign" and are therefore combated. Oils and fats, on the other hand, are less often described as allergens.

Intolerance cannot always be detected with a single test.
The "blood tests" that are often carried out always lead to false positive results.

Our tip

The elimination diet has proven to be the scientifically safest method for finding out what a furry friend is reacting to.

What is an elimination or exclusion diet?

With an exclusion diet, the dog food is reduced to as few components as possible, which ideally your furry friend has never been fed before.
Your four-legged friend initially only receives one source of protein and one source of carbohydrates - grains should be excluded in any case. As soon as the symptoms subside or disappear, the so-called provocation test is carried out. Here, your fur friend is gradually confronted with individual, usual food ingredients and how he reacts to them is evaluated.

Which food is suitable for my nutritionally sensitive dog?

As soon as the allergen is known, it is necessary to offer your dog a food that no longer contains this component.
For dogs who are allergic to grains or gluten containing grains, for example, potatoes, bananas or sweet potatoes are very suitable as an alternative source of carbohydrates. Here you can find further information about our product range for dogs with intolerances.

To find a suitable product if your fur friend has other allergies and intolerances, you can use the filter function in our Onlineshop use. You have the option to filter our items according to your favorite's intolerances and special requirements. Alternatively, you can use our interactive feed advisor, which Guides you step by step to the right food.

Are snacks allowed for food-sensitive dogs?

So that your fur friend doesn't have to go without rewards and snacks, you can adapt them to his diet: For example, dried or cooked pieces of meat that only contain the protein source that your four-legged friend tolerates well are permitted.
