In order to enjoy the beautiful late summer sunshine hours with lots of excitement, fun and good humor, we have a few exciting game ideas for you and your furry friend that you can easily implement spontaneously as the mood takes you.

Please note that even on rainy late summer days, there are hot hours with exhausting heat when the sun comes out. Despite periods of rain, the hot times of day are exhausting for your furry friend because dogs cannot regulate their body temperature by sweating like we humans do - their only option is to pant. If your furry friend starts to pant heavily, it's definitely time for a break and a well-earned cool down in the shade.

You can find more exciting tips & tricks for hot summer days with your furry friend in our guide article dog & heat.

Obstacle parkour in nature

On dry, not too hot late summer days, you can motivate your furry friend to jump over obstacles with you. A stone or tree stump, a piece of wood or another safe, stable object is a welcome change for your active four-legged friend.

These joint activities also strengthen your bond, your dog can train its coordination and concentration in a playful way and you can promote your very individual dog-human relationship.

Slalom course between trees

Running under the large, shady trees is particularly good for you and your furry friend on warm days. A tree-lined meadow or the park offers you and your soul dog plenty of obstacles for a slalom run.

With a few treats in your hand, you can introduce your dog to the game and, with a little skill, even introduce the "slalom" command for your new pastime.

Fun in the water with sticks and stones

Does your dog love water more than anything? Then go to the nearest body of water! Throw a stick into the shallow river bed or a stone into the lake. Your water rat can go into the shallow river bed and bring the branch ashore or swim towards the stone in the lake.

There are totally crazy water rats who will even dive for the stones. Give it a try - bathing and swimming outside is simply the best activity on hot days.

Hide and seek in the woods

On hot summer days, it's important to keep your dog busy without putting too much physical strain on him. The best way to do this is to play hide-and-seek together in a cool, shady wooded area near you. Your dog will be mentally challenged by the nose work and the different smells.

Have your four-legged friend sit on the forest path and hide behind an easy-to-reach tree at the beginning. Reward your furry friend with a delicious treat as soon as he has found you. This will increase his motivation and, accordingly, his fun factor, so you can increase the level of difficulty each time.

A delicious treat

After so much outdoor fun in the summer sun, you and your fluffy nose should not miss out on a fitting reward at the end: Find a shady spot under a tree or on a dog cooling mat and enjoy your time together with a refreshing ice cream - with a special dog ice cream for your soulmate, of course.
